Slowly Emerging from my Coccoon

I've had a wretched time recovering from jetlag and getting used to the overcast skies. I just want to sleep and sleep. Doesn't help that the kitty girls are joining me in the recliner. aaah, nap time.

Today I finally got sewing again on my Florida 9-Patch. The two top rows are more blocks made in Florida and the rest I whipped out this morning.

Passionate Purple Quilter Pam sent me some great strips of fabric, one of which is perfect for this quilt. It's the swirls of pink, orange and, yellow on white. Completely loving how they look in these blocks. Thank you, Pam!

I thought some of my blocks were too extreme so I was playing it a bit safer while cutting strips and squares. I figure there need to be a lot more boring blocks in here to make the wonkier ones stand out. I'll probably go back to making some crazier ones at the end. I'm hoping to make a bizillion of these things to give myself lots of options and maybe end up with a couple of different quilts.

As far as life stuff goes, the flights back from the states really went well. I have to give kudos to Delta. All our flights were on time, the coach seats had extra leg room and personal tv screens, and we eventually got all our luggage. I still hate Charles de Gaulle Airport with a passion but at least we weren't continually bused around the airport this time.

Saw lots of movies while on the plane. Becoming Jane, The Jane Austen Book Club, Dan in Real Life, and Juno were all good. I wouldn't say great though. I'm rather surprised that Juno was nominated for a Best Picture Oscar. Really? The other movies last year must have been pretty bad. As far as I'm concerned that goes for the other Best Picture nominees. Bloody, violent, dark - not my cup of tea.

Alright, I gotta get back to my sewing now. I just wanted to check in and say, hey, I'm still alive.

I saw Juno and I think it was the quirkiness of the actress and the totally different way she handled the pregnancy (i.e. adoption as opposed to abortion or keeping the baby and raising it) that captured people. the other one "old men for something other:FORGET IT! I saw the trailer and said no way! My hubby saw it and said it was basically the trailer repeated over and over. There's enough violence and mayhem in this world. Why would you pay to see it??

The others (Jane and Dan) were cute and entertaining.

Love how your florida quilt is coming along. Wish I was in Florida right now! LOL. Glad you had a good trip!

The quilt is looking good. Don't you have to love jet lag? We are still dealing with it two weeks later.

You can't judge a movie that you see on an airplane -- just not the right conditions to appreciate it. I don't think Juno was up to best movie, but I had the best time watching it! Loved the music, too.

Making blocks, seeing what happens -- love your approach to quiltmaking. That's not what they taught me when I took a class. :)

your Florida quilt is so fun, and I think I see some Manitoba greens of the hand dyed variety mixed in there too. sounds like you need a vacation after the vacation, but isn't that always the case?

loving your tropical quilt! And I'm glad you're back. I've missed reading your blog.

Just wanted to confirm that you don't mind my flower tutorial. I'm assuming by your positive comment that it's ok.

I do love bright colors. Your quilt is looking so good. There is something very special about time in an easy chair with kitties. Enjoy.

OMG, obviously you have never heard of a "Nap Zone" before have you? My children discovered said Nap Zones when they were quite little. Anyone with cats should know *exactly* what I'm talking about. You are petting the cat and BAM you're in a Nap Zone. So don't worry, everyone that has cats experiences these!!
Your quilt is wonderful, so summery. Who needs the sunshine when you have sunshine all over in that quilt??

Glad to hear you're back, safe and sound. Sometimes we do need a vacation to recover from the vacation don't we?!

Love the happy blocks :- )

It may take awhile to recover though by the looks of this quilt you're well on the way. Beautiful, bright and summery feeling.

Dealing with jetlag myself after just two timezones - it seems to get harder and harder. The good weather did follow me home, though!

Just LOVE these nine patches!! Can't wait to see what you do with them.

Man, I hate jet lag. I took 3 weeks to start to feel human last trip Europe/San Francisco. I feel for you. The cats are right to hold you down in the chair. (love that Nap Zone thought!) Give yourself time to recover.
I think those bright, happy blocks are great! I love 9-Patches, and the thought of making tons to see what happens is just right!

You are welcome. That swirly orange/pink fabric really works well. I love seeing it in your blocks. I have not been brave enough to use it, yet! You inspire me to get busy and make it happen. Thanks.

Could've been worse Tonya - you could've been going via Heathrow Terminal 5 - what a nightmare that would've been

Good to hear from you. Been thinking of you and these little nine patches a lot! Seriously.

Looking forward to seeing Pokey in there with those for added crazy love! ;)

I just rented Juno tonight. Uh. I'll keep you posted on that.

Keep up the naps. They're good.

Btw, I love that polka dot and blue patch on the bottom right. Tooo cute. *karendianne.

The Jane Austen film is one I really want to see. Great friend is a Lefroy and a descendent of Geoffrey (?) Lefroy.

Gorgeous gorgeous nine patch and I bet it looks lovely on the design wall with the sun streaming in. According to the meteo we've got sun from Tuesday onwards, reaching 22°c on Thursday woooo hooooooo!

Give Pokey and Lily a cuddle from me.

am sure spring is amazing in paris - isn't it fun to go away and come back and it feels like a totally different place!
