Queen of the Nile

Here's a crusty I made shortly after moving to Cairo. It was a gift for a crazy wonderful woman who loves flamingoes and helped us out tremendously in getting settled. I had purchased a set of flamingo and palm tree buttons shortly before moving here. How fortuitous was that?

One of our air conditioners went out the night before last. It's the one that cools down the bedrooms. The night before last was bearable, but last night a misery. I slept on the couch where there was still a/c while sweetie slept in the bedroom with two different fans going full blast. And since the computer is in one of the bedrooms, it's a sauna in here. It's 8:00am and 88 degrees in here. Not much fun so I'm going to make this another short post.

At least we have a/c. Poor Clare, expat British quilter living in France, doesn't. Hope the summer doesn't get too hot there. I now have Clare seeking Gwen Marston books out. Woohoo. And speaking of GM, I've heard on the rumor mill that her new book is now available. I've got my copy ordered.

You are so incredibly talented!!! That "crusty" is wonderful. Is it the same as a quilty postcard? Can't tell the size from photo. I love that seed stitch style of quilting! I have tried it and want to do more. I need to look for the new GM book at my local quilt shops!!! Hope you can stay cool!

I love the colors on this one. THe stitching on the background is great. Also the buttons add a gret finishing touch.

Again, love the colours and the design.

And just thought you may be interested to know that we have starting buying fans for the bedrooms to prepare for a hot summer! We can't have a ceiling one in our bedroom unless we want to be decapitated, but Alex's can.

Hope you get to cool down soonest and get a good night's sleep.

So sorry to hear that AC wen kaput on you...nasty timing! Is it something you need to deal with and replace?

Love the flamingo curstie...what a great bonus to have bought those buttons when you did.

Which GM books don't you have?? Only asking cause I saw she had books for sale directly from her, on her website.
Is it the Freddy and Gwen book you have ordered??? SHould be out by now.

I love the crusty! I had not even heard of them before you! I got all my free style letters pieced this weekend for my Christmas quilt. Now to get them sewed together into words.

Sorry you're not 'cool' anymore. :)

But your palm and flamingo crusty is cool enough for anybody!

Is Egypt known for palm trees and flamingos?

Tonya, you never cease to amaze me with your talent! You do such neat things, I wanna be just like you when I grow up! hehe.

Hope you get the ac fixed soon. We lived without ac for years, now wonder how in the world we did! Sounds like a good day for a road trip!
