A Star of My Own

I get comments from folks saying how much they like the photos of the kitties. Well, if you're going to keep encouraging me, you're going to keep getting these same old pictures. Pokey on fabric - I guess she was helping me select fabric by sleeping on the bits she didn't want me to use.

My new project, a String Lone Star. I've been wanting to do one ever since seeing Bonnie's (scroll to the bottom of the page here). It looks a bit "off" here (hey, it's only got one arm -- I've got a long ways to go.

I think Bonnie may have used the 3" diamonds and I chose the 4" which means my quilt is going to be huge. aiyee. Are there enough lights in here? Enough contrast? It looks disjointed to me right now.
I was thinking initially of just using the string diamonds all on their own, but no, has to be a star. My husband will hate this one - way too much color and chaos for him.
It's late and I need to go make dinner. Can I just ask though, what happened to the sun? Rain, rain go away!

I"ve been tempted to do bonnies string diamond too. I just loved that quilt! Yours looks good so far! Where is my Miss Lilly? I miss her. Maybe she can come over here for a vacation?

I love diamond colors just as they are. Never too many kitty pics, or Paris ones either. :)

That looks really great, all those colours, so cheerful. Midas always sleeps on the fabric pieces he wants a quilt from!

Oh yes, yes, yes!! With your signature purple as setting squares and triangles this will be fabulously over the top!! (OK, I'm a teeensy bit biased since Bonnie's quilt inspired me as well, but really, yours will be beautiful).

Excellent! You know me, never too many colors or too bright! I'll be watching to see what you put in the background.

I think the question of is this enough lights or not depends on the background color you plan to use. If you plan to use a light background, this is probably enough lights. If you are going to use a dark background, I'd probably throw a smidge more light in the blocks.

Always in awe of what you do, as you know. I'm trying to get myself out of a rut and am cutting strips, squares, HST's and QST's out of 3 years of scraps. What becomes of it we shall see. Probably nothing!!!!!

Freezeing down here. Really horrible!

Hi Tonya! Hope you're doing well. Finally had the time/inclination to look at the computer -- and where else would I go but Lazy Gal Tonya's house! Your log cabin almost gave me a heart attack! I adore it!!! You sure have been busy since I dropped of the face of the blog-planet. Nice to see you still having fun and being inspired. Can't say the same for myself... Such an effort just to do a little sewing... Hoping that will start changing soon. Keep up the fun work!

I really like the diamonds..but could be hard to distinguish with all the movement going on. What about using some solid diamonds...maybe ever other star point, or to outline them with the string diamonds in the center? I always get motivated when I see what you are working on!

I don't think anyone willl be able to sleep under this wild quilt- too much color and movement!! Love it!!

Gorgeous! I must make one of these one day. It is so colorful and active. What are you doing with the backgrounds?

I love the riot of color in the string star quilt-it's fantastic! Can't wait to see what it looks like finished. I have to say I'm not a big cat person, but your kitties are very cute, especially when shown playing in your fabric! And it is fun to see pictures of them enjoying your stash!

Wow, This String Lone Star is awesome. I can't wait to see what kind of background that you'll use for this quilt. :-)

Ever since I began quilting some 24years ago, I've wanted to do a lone star quilt for my son who was born in the Lone Star State (Texas)! This is just gorgeous, however, I do agree with beth above about adding some solid diamonds in amongst the more obnoxious colorful ones. It will be so beautiful when it's done!
Do you ever sleep? :o)

I'm thinking those colors are absolutely wonderful! I wouldn't worry about the balance just yet -- do some more strings and see what happens!

Quit stressing... just let it happen and the results will continue to be AMAZING! Like the others, I'm curious what you're considering for your background... so many possibilities! What a GREAT way to beat back the rainy blahs (it's raining heavily here and it's cold, too)

It's coming along GREAT!! I do like the turquoise with it...Mine is still VERY orange! *LOL* It wants to be a real quilt when it grows up, not just a top..*sigh* I'm browsing your site while waiting for the movers to come load the moving van with all the boxes I'm surrounded with. The puter is the last thing to pack..the last thread of my sanity in this move..ahhhhh!!!
