Troubles

This is my Kansas City Troubles, longarm machine quilted by Bonnie Hunter.

Yesterday was fun. Went to an endocrinologist and discovered I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, in which the immune system attacks the thyroid. Great, fine. So had to do another ultrasound of my thyroid and get more blood drawn so that we can see if there has been any progression of the disease since I last had those tests done a year and a half ago.

It's not an incredibly big deal, there's a possibility that I will have to take thyroid meds for the rest of my life. Sigh. My body hates me. My husband is a bit stressed because I have to get some of my medical things sorted before we can be cleared to go overseas.

We have had some dinners and lunches with friends and my husband's colleagues. Have done some shopping as well and now I have a raincoat that should stand me in good stead both here and in Paris.

A book recommendation for Siobhan and anyone else who loves mysteries AND what goes into making movies. Earthquake Weather by Terrill Lee Lankford. Thoroughly enjoyable and it has a different rhythm from most mysteries I read - the dead body didn't turn up way at the beginning of the book.

We watched Team America World Police and loved the political incorrectness of it all and the goofy joy in blowing up models. Unfortunately it was the unrated version and of course just went too far in the ickiness. I want the "censored" version goshdarnit.

Having spent years dealing with an ongoing endrocrine system issue, I can understand you're husbands stress. There was some mission work in Africa I wanted to do, but couldn't get medical clearance, even though day in and day out I feel fine and all is under control... At the same time I can understand the restriction... Hope the pin cushion Tonya (getting blood drawn) doesn't last for long. :-)

Sorry to hear about your health problems - hopefully the medication will sort it out. I adore your Kansas City Blues Quilt - those blues sure are deep!

the worse thing about your diagnosis seems to be the idea of taking a pill every day - as one who has done this for 6 years now, that part is easy and when you feel better and have more energy - taking that pesky little pill will be a piece of cake - here's hoping you get it worked out quickly so your husband won't be stressed! Tonya: I have the Hashimoto's too. Good luck with getting it all resolved before time to go.

Once they figure out the strength of the meds you need to take, it's pretty much a piece a cake to keep everything running smoothly!

Gosh Tonya, I'm so sorry about all the medical tests you're going thru. I don't know much about thyroid function, so I don't know what the problems are for you, but I've got my fingers crossed for the best possible outcome *warm hugs*.
I love the quilt you've shared, it's just lovely, and so you with the vibrant colours. You have such a wonderful eye ... and the quilting looks superb too!
You're in my prayers hon
*hugs*

Lovely quilt. How long will you be in the DC area? I know of a quilter's yard sale at the end of the month... ($2 per yard LQS quality pre-washed.)

Gorgeous Kansas City Troubles quilt, Tonya. That's a pattern I've been thinking of doing for a long time. Yours, in the blues, is original and lovely...only what we've all come to expect from you!

I'm sorry for your medical problems...not what you need at this busy time. The move to Paris is enough, already. I'll be holding a good thought that it all gets sorted out, and you'll just be popping a little pill every day to be feeling fine.

Good book recommendation, too. I love to read and always like to hear of another good author...

As one who pops 2 little thyroid pills at lunch everyday...I take a .01+ .088 to get just the right amount...I can sympathize. I had mine removed due to thyroid cancer. JudyL is right, once they get the dose figured out you don't really notice it anymore.

Hope it gets sorted quickly. Is this a new quilt? I think the colors are very striking! Dark and yet very colorful and as expected the quilting is fabulous!

There is definitely too much ickiness in Team Amer. My son loved it (he is 21) I had to leave the room. I am sorry about your meds. I have to take some forever now and I hate it. Good luck. We had a harrowing few days and I decided Abhorsen was just what I needed. I am about half way through Sabriel and I love it. Thanks so much for recommending it. Have you read Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell? It is def. an adult book but is wonderful and huge. Thanks again for the recommendation and good luck.

So sorry to hear about the thyroid trouble - I'm destined for it, I'm afraid, mom, grandma, etc. Take care of yourself and get everything taken care of before you head out again! Best wishes!

love that quilt--I read your post in bloglines--where the pictures NEVER show--and so while I was waiting for your blog to come up, I pictured the quilt in my mind. It was SO totally different! I loved it, love those blues..you must have been holding out on us because I don't remember you talk about working on that one!

Ohh, nice quilt! I love the blues. Is it for a wall hanging or table cover or... square bed sized, like some futons or waterbeds?

What a stunning quilt! I love your choice of colors. I don't know anything about thyroid disease, but I hope your medicine helps you out soon.

Love the gorgeous quilt!

I've been taking thyroid meds for a couple of years. If you have to have a chronic condition, this is what you should pick. Very easy to control, at least in my case.

Hey Tonya, glad you could join the disfunctioning thyroid club!!!! I have been on thyroid meds for5 years now. Boy, the thyroid controls a lot of things you just never realize. Once I started taking my meds I had the best night of sleep I had had in YEARS!!! Now I am back to never a full night, but other things have leveled out. It really is no big deal popping the little pill everyday and the benefits are great. I take 175 mcg a day. Kind of a large dose, but it seems to work. My T3 and T4 levels are almost normal now.

Ohhhhhh, loved the quilt. Very beautiful, but not like anything I have seen you do. Nice... I am liking it!

I'm late to the party, (been really busy lately, sorry I've not been by to see what you're working on.)I was diagnosed back in 2001 with Hashimoto's. I take a really weird about of thyroid meds, .137, which they don't make in generic anymore. Here's the best place I've found for support: http://thyroid.about.com/. Mary Shomon has our disease, and has a really good book, Living Well with Thyroid Disease. Some things she says I don't totally buy, but she gives lots of info.
You are going to feel so much better, just know that.
