UnRuly Blogger

Yes, I admit it. Bad blogger, bad. Sorry for the unannounced blog break, but I just wasn't feeling it. I've been sewing and working on secret projects - stuff that I can't share right now.  You'll see little hints here and there but that's it.

I've been playing with some of the fabric that The Orlando Modern Quilt Guild gifted me (I squealed when I opened the bag and found eyeballs):

The guild gave me a gift for the kitties too: a compressed catnip ball. Just like little kids, they had fun with the packaging:

Here's something new to show you. I discovered artist Len Peralta and had him create the UnRuly Quilter with Scissors (as shown with Pokey):

I got it through the Monster by Mail project. I've never worn a miniskirt in my life but the teeth are accurate. hee hee hee. You can see more monsters here including a couple of knitting zombies. So far I'm the only quilter!

Here's a teaser. Gwen Marston is really excited about this:

I'll tell you more when there's more to know.

I continue to handquilt LAWS. I'm getting closer to done but I'm really bummed out that a couple of the hand-dyes (purchased way back in the 90's) are ALREADY bleeding onto adjoining fabric. I think I might have to boil (okay, just wash with really hot water) this quilt with Synthrapol when it's finished. Anyone ever try that?

One thing I'm not working on? Anything for the Text and Textiles exhibition that I mentioned in the last blog post. Just not enough time. I hope some of ya'all are doing it though.

Obsessing about Doctor Who. I've watched and rewatched a number of episodes and had to hunt down and read theories on what the heck is going on. All so cool. woohoo! I was pretty sure of who River was, but totally nailed it at the beginning of "A Good Man Goes to War." I want a spin-off of the Silurian Detective Agency in 1880's England.

If you're sure you wouldn't like Doctor Who but are willing to give it a try (that was me back in January) watch the episode "Blink" and then decide if you're intrigued enough to watch more. Fabulous episode and it's a stand alone.

Ya'all take care and I'll try to be better about posting. I leave you with a photo of Bibi investigating:

We used to love love love Doctor Who back in the 80's. Then when we moved to Baton Rouge we couldn't get him anymore.

Love the halloween fabs.

Did miss you. Really!

Oh, that Gwen Marston teaser! I am on pins and needles. Oh, wait! I'm working with pins and needles. So far I haven't sat on one today.

I am with you on Dr Who - I have been a fan since the Tom Baker days and I watch my David Tennant box set from beginning to end when I quilt! I also have a lifesize Dr cut-out in my studio keeping me company - oh dear, have I shared too much? lol! Loved the last episode - almost as much as the Doctors Wife when the TARDIS becomes real! Genius!

Well there's two bright thoughts for the future - another Gwen Marston book and a tv series about lesbian alien(s) fighting crime in long swishy frocks! If both come about I will be as happy as a cat with a new cardboard box :)

Definitely no to the skirt, but love the cartoon!

I've ordered a pile of Halloween fabric from Etsy. Am waiting for it to arrive before I start jumping up and down. It won't be as good as those eyes. Well cool.

Another Gwen book. Yippee!!

Yeah for the Doctor! Love it too!

Scary eyeballs fabric! You must be like my friend - we were at an antiques fair and yes she wanted to buy a false eye! EEK! I am sorry to say I persuaded her not to! Shame, I hear you say!!

Doesn't Synthrapol set colour? If it's going to run, it's gonna run. I swear by colour catchers for a when in doubt fabric.

Katie said...

How about Retayne to set the colors?

I do love the hairdo also....you certainly don't look like that but maybe it is the "inner Tonya".

Happy "secret sewing" oh maybe we'll be blessed with another book from you ?

Happy Sewing

Woohoo! Something new from Gwen Marston! Soon, I hope. :)

Shout makes a washer sheet called Color Catchers. I no longer wash anything without it.

What a funny cartoon. Yuk to the eyeball fabric from me--but I know that my DH would like it. I'm already inspired by the picture from Gwen, and I think my next quilt might be solid colors (except that I have a bunch of not-solid to use up, that makes 2 quilts, I guess).

I shouldn't say this, but I've been watching Dr Who since William Hartnell! (My brother was one of the original set who hid behind the sofa when the Daleks first came on.) Our Saturday night meal and entertainment planning revolves round the timings for the prog, and then it's discussion time. Love it! The eyeball fabric is fabulous!

Blink was the spookiest show I think I've ever seen. My husband and daughter are the Dr. fans because I can't stand the loud robots, but I saw that episode and liked it. I love your cats and your monster self. So cool.

The first time I saw your cartoon character, I thought it humorous, but, really, not very realistic. Now today...& I am not sure why I popped in today, I just did... Anyway, today the cartoon reminded me of your transformation post. With the addition of electricity to your knee you were complete! And wait a minute...that cartoon is Tonya!

Jody said...

dear Tonya,
I just found you - sigh. Wonderful stuff!!! Do you have a pattern for your most amazing LOVE piece? Waiting with baited breath ...
best,
Jody

Gotta love those eyeballs! And thanks for the Dr. Who tip -- my daughter is intrigued by it, but I've never watched so didn't know what to tell her.

I just have to comment on this, because you are the FIRST combined quilter & Dr Who-fan I know besides myself!! YAY! :) ...Can't get over the change from David Tennant though, he's my Doctor forever... <3
(I totally guessed who River was, too!)
Hugs and such from Finland! :)

Oh, must add this: "Blink" was the first Dr Who ep I ever watched and I was hooked immediately! :) A few people had been trying to et me to watch it, but I just didn't have the interest... Not before Blink!! :)

Blink was awesome! Been watching the Dr. since Peter Davison, but have since seen them all--and have all but 2 episode that I taped off PBS.
