BumbleBeans and Halloween Fabric

I had a great visit this last week with V (of Bumble Beans Inc and 15 Minutes Play):

We did a bit of hand quilting and talked a bunch. We ate out at one of my favorite restaurants: Seasons 52, which focuses on healthy, fresh food. We sat at a table overlooking the Intercoastal Waterway at dusk and it wasn't humid and not too hot. Very lovely, until the next day when I realized I was covered in mosquito bites. No kidding, I stopped counting after I hit the 23rd bite on just one leg. Eek. I was obviously attracting all the mosquitos in the area - V came out unscathed!

V did a bit of sewing, playing with my Halloween novelty prints. Even better, she enjoyed it!

I admit I have been completely sucked into Halloween fabric this year. V contributed to my stash with this really funny Edward Goreyesque orange print and the great lime green spider print:

Which added to the fabric I bought in Lyons, Colorado at Quilting Hands. The owner said she'd bought something like 150(??? - did I really hear that right?) Halloween prints this year. Not only that, but she had three books by Gwen Marston - my kinda shop. My favorite is the hearse print, which has a casket falling out the back. Doesn't it look like Mr Munster should be driving?

okay, and I'd already bought some Halloween fabric at a couple of local shops, one during their special Christmas in July celebration (and no, I didn't buy any Christmas fabric):

A few quick words about tv and then you can have your Pokey pictures. I am so completely and totally loving the new season of Eureka on Syfy. Well, maybe not completely. I do have a quibble with the actor who's joined this year and his "American" accent - why couldn't they just have let him be British? Anyway, Eureka is a wonderful sci-fi romp that has a lot of emotional depth. Love it, love it, love it and woohoo it's been renewed for another season. Even if you haven't watched before, try it.

I surprised myself by enjoying The Glades on A&E as much as I have. I'm so burned out on cop procedurals, but the cast has great chemistry and it isn't too intense. Fun. As compared to the horrible Rizolli and Isles. Hated it. Had to fast forward through the beginning of the episode (never ever want to see the victims' last moments) and couldn't even make it through the second episode (hmm, this whole plotline happened last year on The Closer). Speaking of which, The Closer continues to be uneven, but had an excellent episode this month. All I need to say is: Provenza and Flynn. Woohoo.

Covert Affairs? Watchable in a geeky way, but it's no Alias.

Ack, Pokey is nipping at me to get attention. So here are your Pokey pictures:

this was of course while I was trying to sew the binding on Slither Eek Boo (which I don't actually have a photo of. ridiculous, isn't it)

Ha! HA! So far, I have not succumbed to actually buying Halloween prints. I like them better than Christmas (am really a orange junky) prints. To me its like salt and pepper shakers, if I ever buy just one I will never stop.

I was most surprised by how much Halloween fabric there actually is, after seeing your stash! (I had no idea) I just never go there.. maybe because it's yet another thing I could be collecting and I just don't go there , yet... I said, yet... one must never say never... ;-) I can' figure out how I didn't get eaten at Seasons 52... Maybe it's a MN thing... the joke is,that the state bird of MN is the Mosquito... so I must be exempt from them...

I love Eureka. I was nervous at the beginning of the season that they were going to screw it up with this whole alternate reality plotline, but they pulled it off.

Wow, you must have the world's best collection of Halloween fabric! You've got some great ones there! I'm kind of addicted to them myself, but am trying not to buy anymore until I actually use some of what I have.

Pokey looks healthy and happy, and that' good!

Oh, and congrats on getting on the Quilt Show! Woohoo! You'll let us know when it'll be on, won't you?

You and your Halloween fabrics! I don't understand mosquitoes, they don't bother me but they eat my daughter up. They are so bad in NC this time of year. As for TV, there is nothing on that I want to watch! I will have to try Glade, we are desperately looking for something to watch.

I love Provenza and Flynn too. Great guys.

I'm loving Hallowe'en this year, at least fabric-wise. I'll have to look out for the Gorey-esque print. My current favorite at our LQS is a glow-in-the-dark line by Avlyn. Extremely sweet and non-threatening, but, hey! It GLOWS IN THE DARK!!

I'm always one episode behind on Eureka (it's a Hulu thing), but I'm liking it this year, too. I also make a point to watch Haven - I'm ennjoying the humor & chemistry. It's a bit Chinese Food, but if I just watch "the surface" and don't try to critique it, it's probably my top show of the season (so far).

Love that halloween print, although it reminds me more of Charles Addams than Edward Gorey.

Wendy in La. (huge Gorey fan, especially his cats of course)

I will buy a Halloween print faster than a Christmas print any day of any week. At light speed in fact. I've got to do something with them soon though 'cause I'm running out of room! Love that Gorey-esque print. Hadn't seen the hearses yet. I see you're doing another Amish challenge over on the other blog. My question is when are we doing a Halloween challenge? ;- )

And FWIW, I agree with you on most of your TV show comments. I'm enjoying Warehouse 13 too, although the male lead character (whose name I can't recall at the moment) is being a little more juvenile than I care for. Still, it beats most of the schlock on other channels.

looks like a fun sewing/quilting adventure!

I have the hearse fabric right here waiting to become the backing on my latest Halloween quilt. Hope to get it quilted this week. Great photos of Pokey

We love Halloween and have already started plans for this year's decorations...loving all of the fabrics! Congrats on your TV time!
A little kitty scratch to Pokey!!
oh, about the skeeter bites, ammonia will take the itching and redness right away- I carry a roll-on tube of it with me during the summer. Drug stores carry it. It works!

Tonya,
I am sure you will come up with something fantastic to make with your funky halloween fabrics. I have not collected very many Halloween fabrics- I really should make a few seasonal things but somehow I never get to them. I usually make big quilts for beds. Maybe someday...
Its funny how we all do different kinds of things - I guess that is what makes quilting so interesting- lots of different techniques, styles and fabrics- the sky or maybe its the stash that is the limit...
Have fun with your fabrics- hope you have recovered from the mosquito bites- they can be pretty uncomfortable.
Regards,
Anna

Great post...fabulous fabrics from our family's favorite holiday, Pokey pictures, and a favorable review of The Glades, which I LOVE!!! I missed tonight's episode, but they play them again. It looked like they were going to kill off his partner in the previews...I hope not...

Don't you think it's a given that he's going to end up with the nurse??

Who makes the casket print?? AWESOME!!

In stitches (and in the glades...),
Teresa :o)

I bought some of that Edward Gorey like print too. We just started Eureka from the first season so Chloe says we are not allowed to watch the current shows yet. I had never heard of it, but I like the whole crazy sci fi stuff.

It is so hard to get really interesting fabrics here in the UK. Very few places seem to stock Alexander Henry and Michael Miller or anything much wacky!

I wish I could have been a fly on the wall to hear the giggles and ideas generated... Thank you for your wonkiness!

There is no one who has a bigger Halloween stash than you. Just when I thought I just might be catching up, you go and add to it again!

Love the hearse fabric too.

what a great photo - you could be sisters.
I also bought that hearse fabric and others from that line. I haven't decided what to do with them yet, but love them - especially the bouncing coffin - how wrong - how right - :)

Halloween can't come without some of Tonya's Wonky quilts!! I'll be looking forward to what you are making again this year.
Pokey is a beauty as always. Why can't I take good close ups of my cats?

I love your Halloween stash! I got some of the Gorey type one in "Deadly Mauve". I loved the name! :)
I must look for some of the casket one.
How nice it was for you and V to meet up. Mosquitos like certain blood types better than others. Apparently they like whichever one you have?
