The Quilt Show

I continue to make slow progress on my Crowns of Thorns. It's my traveling project so I only work on it when I'm getting together with friends. Pokey has to inspect them:

I guess the blocks passed muster. And okay, I hear ya all, I'll keep the reds in:

It's kind of funny. Even when I have perfectly sized triangles and squares, I'm still me. I don't need no stinking matching seams...

I've got news for you. I'm going to be a guest on The Quilt Show with Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims. On the one hand, oh boy!!! and on the other, aaaaaagh!!! definitely mixed emotions and nerves there.

The Quilt Show is an internet tv show that is filmed in front of an audience of quilters. I'll be doing a demo of the letters and bringing some quilts for show and tell. The good thing about it being on the internet is that you don't have to live in the U.S. to see it.

I'll be going out for the taping in Boulder, CO in August. Luckily that's where my favorite uncle and aunt (you remember Janet, the quilter, who helped me out after surgery last fall) live so I'm excited about getting to see them.

Unfortunately, the tickets for the TQS taping are all gone - apparently they go FAST as soon as they are announced. The show won't be airing until 2011.

My computer connection is miserable right now. So I'll just sign off with that tidbit. Later!

  1. and do you not care that a couple of triangles on that light yellow block are going in wonky directions? just asking..... (they're beautiful, by the way.)

  2. Matching points is stressful and I don't like stress while quilting. It is supposed be relaxing and calming. Love your blocks!

  3. Love the wonky and the mismatches the most. Great blocks, really. Pokey is gorgeous as usual and major congrats on the quilt show, the books and all! Just pretend you have an audience of naked cats...you'll do great!

Congrats on the Internet show. I just saw Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims in Sister's at the quilt show and they are quite the performers. I had not seen them before. I hope you have a fabulous time!

  9. That's ok then. No matching seams or points (breathes sigh of relief (grin)).

Congrats about the show. Pity you can't take les chats along to keep you company and calm your nerves though goodness only knows what would happen if Howler howled and the rest of them took off!

Glad you kept the red blocks in.

  15. Okay, this is AWESOME news that you get to be on the show.
I really like that deep red and blue block on the bottom, by the way.
And, I dropped by to invite you over to read my blogpost for 7/14/10, as I couldn't go to a Paul McCartney concert without thinking of you and the rest of the gang at least a few times, especially when he gave a tribute to George Harrison. Do drop over when you've got a minute.
And have tons of fun getting ready to be on the show!

  16. Oh, last night on the way home from the concert, I saw a license plate frame that made me think of you. It said "Utah Quilt Guild: We Cut Corners."
    Cute.

  20. Good luck on that show!

  21. Congratulations! I hop you get to plug your book too! And, I am still loving the subtle little bits of almost matching fabrics in your blocks and the two rotated patches on the one block that does have all matching fabric. They're wonderful little surprises that keep it all just off balance enough that it won;t get boring or staid. :-)

  24. Tonya, that's exiting news. I am so looking forward to the release of your book, too. I love the colorful Crown of Thorn blocks you are working on. They look soft and pretty and friendly, too... (despite the name of the block)

  25. Congratulations Tonya on your upcoming book and being on the quilt show. You do really fun stuff and are true to your style - I really like that about your work. I know when I see those fun letters and liberated quilts that they could be your unique work.
I love your new blocks with your cat- makes me smile.
    Well done,
    Regards,

  36. Beautiful crown blocks! I know they're a lot of work, each and every one of them. I was a quilting addict for many years, always did my quilting by hand. Then knitting took over my life, and I'm currently addicted to that.

  37. Just love these blocks! Nice to see what you've been up to - and congrats on the TQS taping!

Great blocks! But did you notice that some of your triangles are going in the wrong directions on the bottom center block? (yellow and blue). Sorry but it was the firs thing I noticed.
