Houston Quilt Market

Why is it when you actually want the cat to get on the fabric and roll around being cute, you get nothin'. No, no, no, I don't want to be here...

This was the best shot I could get of Lily, but if you want to see more of my fabric and what I'm working on, head over to the Liberated Amish class blog, and in particular this post. There's still plenty of room in the class/get together, so please come join us.

I have a request for information. I'm determined to go to Houston Quilt Market this year - woohoo. I've been to festival (absolutely amazing) several times but never to market. I've never been a professional before (oooh, that is so weird to think about). I'd love to know what it's like to go and is there anything important I need to know. When would it be smart to arrive and depart?

I'm also trying to decide about Quilt Festival. Seems crazy not to go, but boy, there is a gap between the two shows. Is there anything to do during that break other than take classes?

I want to start making reservations and am just not sure what dates to choose. Help me, help me.

Hi there-
I've been to Festival and market many times as a vendor. I can probably answer most of your questions. just send me an email and I'd be happy to help!

What do you do between Market and Festival? Send them a proposal (with publicity for your upcoming book!) and get thyself on the teaching schedule! That will keep you occupied - and foot the bill for all the shopping you will no doubt be doing!

Cats never cooperate when you want to take their picture, do they? Mine always does something adorable and then stops immediately when I get the camera, so I know how you feel! I have many pictures of her butt walking out of the photo...nice fabric, though!

woohoo! market is the best! you will have an amazing time. I will trust Sio to fill you in-but bring many, many bags to fill with stuff you will want to buy..trust me on that.

What to do between? Volunteer! There is tons of stuff that needs to be done. One year I dressed bricks in black. Hate to have naked bricks. Then I got to help dress the manikins with the wearable entries. It was a fun look behind the scenes plus I was able to see the quilts without anyone else around. A private showing. It was a lot of fun.

Hi Just discovered your blog and your beautiful quilt making. I am self taught, mostly from online tutorials and websites. I have only been quilting for 6 months or so and am v much a beginner. I would v much appreciate your opinion on my work if that is ok? Just email me no need to comment if you don't wish too. All criticism welcome! Thank you so much.

Tonya, have you considered maybe contacting local quilt shops in the area to let them know you're going to be in the area and maybe teaching some classes? It might be a way to fill the time, help pay for your extended stay, and meet some fans!

cute post. I love your four legged staff that helps select fabric for you. LOL.

In between market & festival, enjoy Texas. A lot to see, and a lot of history. Plus there are oodles of quilt stores you can visit!

What lovely colors! I wonder if cats see colors? Maybe they do, but the colors are different for them?

I agree with SewCalGal. Eventhough the shops are getting ready for festival, they will still have lots to look at. You might be able to work into the conversation that you have a book out. :) Enjoy Houston! There is so much to do there. And have a great time at Market! There's nothing like it!
