Whee, more fabric from the Fabric Square Shop.
These first are from Benartex's batik line called Sand and Surf. Has anyone hand quilted with Benartex batiks? I hope they're easy to needle.
I love the light softness of Kashmir IV
These Jane Sassaman's are fabulous - so cool in little pieces or larger.

Pokey is sick right now and I'm miserable. Yesterday she slept and slept in the morning and when she got up she was walking as though she had pins and needles in her legs - just not working right - and her head was strangely tilted. I thought maybe she'd had a stroke. We took a trip to the emergency room and it turns out she has Feline Vestibular Disease aka Dizzy Kitty. It's a nasty case of vertigo.
Took a follow-up trip to the vet today for bloodwork and an IV since she's not eating or drinking. Odds are this will go away on its own, but it could be permanent or a sign of a much more serious disorder. Trying not to think about that too much.
I've been spending a lot of time on the floor just watching her, being with her. Not sure she entirely appreciates it - would probably rather be left alone to try and sleep.
Tonya, very best wishes for you and your pet. It is not fun when a loved one gets sick -- no matter the species! Thinking of you.
ReplyDeleteHi I'm sorry to hear about you cat Pokey. I know how I will feel if my Chiclet took sick so my heart goes out to you. Hopefully it will go away on its own. My prayers are with you.
ReplyDeleteI hope your kitty is better soon. I have known of a few people whose dogs have had Canine Vestibular Disease and they did get over it in a little over a week, as I recall....so I'm assuming this may happen with your sweetie, too. I know it is very upsetting, though, for you to watch this, because as you say there is also a chance it could be something more than the idiopathic version of the condition. We will think positively, though, and assume that you will be giving us good news within the next week or two, okay?
ReplyDeleteHi Tonya,
ReplyDeleteI find that if you wash the batiks first you should have no problem. One of my customers had given me a batik for the back of her quilt, and I ended up washing that one myself because it still had wax on it. It seems they also needle much nicer when you do.
great selection of fabrics! building up that florida collection well I see :-)
ReplyDeleteI hope Pokey gets better soon -- it's so hard to see kitties in distress, especially when there's so little you can do to help.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, your fabrics look like a lot of fun!
First, I hope Pokey gets well soon and there is no lasting illness. I will say a prayer for you both.
ReplyDeleteSecondly, the fabrics are D-licious!
Hugs
Please keep us updated on Pokey. I'm a TOTAL cat lover.
ReplyDeletePoor Pokey. I had a chihuahua that had vestibulitis several times. It can be very frightening. For the owner as well as the animal. I hope it goes away soon.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry about Pokey. It's amazing how animals get so deep within our hearts!
ReplyDeletewow! Tonya! Fabric spree! woopee!
ReplyDeletelove those sassamans. they are so fun, can't WAIT to see what You'd do with those!
POOR POKEY!!! give her a little head scratch from me.. and a handful of those kitty treats!
Oh my...poor Pokey....poor Tonya....last summer I did the same thing with my little sister...down on the floor...watching her every move..checking her breathing...I'm sure she wanted me to just go away too, but sadly, she DID have a stroke...I sorely miss her.
ReplyDeleteYour fabrics look great. Aren't they making the batiks just Outrageous!!
Best wishes to Pokey (and to you) ~ sick is no fun, human or feline.
ReplyDeleteHope Pokey is feeling better soon...
ReplyDeleteHi Tonya, I've found that batiks are not a problem for hand quilting as long as they are washed and then I put fabric softener in the rinse water. I have recently discovered Seventh Generation Free & Clear Fabric Softener (no dyes, no scents), and it is wonderful. The fabric comes out of the dryer so soft. I hand dye my own fabrics (the chemicals can leave the fabric feeling a bit rough / course) and I have noticed a very definite improvement in the hand of the fabric since I started using that softener. I am able to purchase it in the "nature" section of our local supermarket. I hope that helps. Happy Quilting! Jay
ReplyDeleteI will say a prayer for Pokey, the poor love. Give her extra hugs and kisses from me, too!
ReplyDeleteGreat link to that Fabric square Shop web site. I have bookmarked it. Thank you. Although I know it will now be a new place for me to get in trouble with myself (laughing)!
Oh, poor baby! Hope this goes away soon. I hate it when our quadripeds are sick; just like kidlets, they can't tell us a thing about what's wrong.
ReplyDeleteOhhh Tonya, I hope poor dear sweet Pokey will be okay, I'll be thinking of you all.
ReplyDelete*hugs*

So sorry about pretty little Pokey. I hope she's better really soon.
ReplyDeleteOh Tonya, my heart goes out to you! I hope Pokey feels better soon, and nothing serious develops from this. I know how completely upset I am when my kitties are sick, and my thoughts are with you.
ReplyDeleteOh Ton. So sorry to read that the second most beautiful cat in the world is poorly. I know how you are feeling. Console yourself with those beautiful Jane Sassaman fabrics and some therapeutic hand quilting, if you can concentrate.
ReplyDeleteSending you big hugs.
Hoping that Pokie feels much better soon. She's so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLove that Hello Betty fabric!
much love for pokie that she gets well soon!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI said a prayer for your kitty-pie. Recently you talked about time loop movies. My favorite is The Lake House. I could watch it a thousand times.

Hope Pokey's alright
ReplyDeletepoor you and poor dizzy Pokey! I am sure she appreciates your loving concern. I sure hope this passes and quickly too.
ReplyDeleteHope Pokey becomes better soon. I'm thinking of you.

I hope Pokey feels better soon. Our Cleo suffers from that disease. She has had symptoms of it since she came to live with us 17 years ago. She is 20 years old and going strong.
ReplyDeleteHope poor little Pokey is feeling better soon. So worrisome, and you feel so helpless. Will hold a good thought that this will pass quickly.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous fabrics to distract you a bit...but I know how that goes...
get well wishes to pokey!
