Wheee, I have internet this morning. Not a great connection, but at least I can get a few things done. Got my iPod loaded with podcasts so I have something to listen to again, got mostly caught up on blogs, and was even able to upload a couple of photos for you.
My copy of Bonnie Hunter's Scraps & Shirttails arrived. Woohoo. Lily with the page turned to my favorite quilt in the book, Cactus Patch:
It's so exciting that a friend has published a book. whee. Not only that but she sent me a small box of her repurposed fabric - some of it is pictured in the book on pages 14 thru 17. I have famous fabric - I just wish I was as good as Bonnie at using it. She's amazing.
Here are some little blocks I made. Not thrilled with them, thinking maybe these would be better if I mixed some solids in.
Or maybe the scale of the fabric is too large for the size of the blocks... Ah well, the only way to find out if something works is to try it and PLAY.
I have to be quick with this post since my husband needs to get online too while the getting is good. Something boring about paying bills. Before I go though, want to give a shout-out to Be*Mused Jan who's working on what hints to be a wonderful little space-themed quilt and who posted a link to the best Halloween costumes I've seen in ages - for plants. I wish I had a craft store nearby (that didn't cost an arm and a leg) - very inspiring.
I like your HOME letters - that last M there with the stripped fabric - looks almost like a little cabin. With a little tweaking it would be sooo cute to make the M's into little houses!
ReplyDeleteCheers!
Evelyn
Your letters are great - I love the way the fabric and the word support each other. Who would not want to visite a HOME that is both colorful and warm/ cozy/ relaxed? Well, that's the message these little letters are sending me, anyway..
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to see how you put them together, using solids? dots? checks? or something else???
Aways so nice to visite here.
Marit
HEY! I know that fabric....*LOL* Want more? I could dump you half a truck load! I can't seem to stop buying it when I find a shirt or a pair of pajama pants that I like. I have quilters BRINGING me shirts to my workshops..*LOL* It's a plaidy-stripey world of wonder! I just need time to sew it all! :c)
ReplyDeleteBonnie
Oh, that's incredible how the "M"s look like homes, that is SO cool.
ReplyDeleteI like the blocks-- the plaids and homespuns underscore the word HOME to me. I want to see what happens if you keep going!
ReplyDeleteLove your letters! I see them better farther away. I got my book from Bonnie too, it is great fun.
ReplyDeleteLove the letters and I think they are very homey. I really liked the link to the halloween site. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThe plaid letters look great. I never think of working in plaid but once again you introduce us all to something new and wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI don't know T. these letters, really feel "HOMEY" and "COZY" I love all the plaids... And the scale seems to work perfect... Very Warm...
ReplyDeletehurray for internet time and all the letter making. keep having fun!
ReplyDeleteI was so excited to see Scraps & Shirtails in our local shop, I almost wanted to say, I know her. I'm excited for Bonnie. Glad you are back in blogland
ReplyDeleteI think you're being too hard on yourself. Or the fabric. Or the letters. Or something - they're CUTE! And they do speak of home and coziness. Even my son saw the potential houses in a couple of the M's :- )
ReplyDelete...hummm...i dunno tonya....i'm kinda liking these letters with just the plaid...i think you did ok!
ReplyDeleteI think that once you press these little letters and place them on a solid fabric they will be just as adorable as all the stuff you make.
ReplyDeleteLucky you...I haven't received my copy of Bonnies book yet, sent out the check at the begining of October, but then Bonnie has had a crazy month and has not been home long enough to change her clothes..lol...I hope for her sake that she gets a break soon.
Hope your internet problems sort themselves out soon. It can be very frustrating. We just have to re-boot everytime we go on. Hate it hate it,hate it! They are sending a new modem. That's the only thing that I'd be happier to get at this point. But Bonnie's book would be great too!
~~Fran...:c)
I haven't stopped by in so long. What a great day to drop in. And with Lily, too! I'll have to poke around for Pokey. ;) *karendianne.
ReplyDeleteI think your letters look great! You've got a lot of eye candy on this blog. I'll definately come back here.
ReplyDeleteThat's my favorite quilt in Scraps and Shirttails too. Very over the top and enthusiastic--I like that in a quilt.
ReplyDeleteI like your letters too and I think they work great in the printed fabric--just surround them with something quieter and you'll be in business.
I'm behind again because of traveling, and I feel your pain about the computer problems, having just gotten over that myself.
ReplyDeleteI think the home blocks are really cute, but that letter M is really just a house masquerading as an letter. Wouldn't it be cute with a person in one of those doors, and a chimney?
one more opinion added to the bunch. your squares are great! i love them just the way they are, but as letters to be read clearly? yes, i think you are right - more solids/tiny prints to clarify the letters or more contrasting fabrics in the empty space of the letters.
ReplyDeleteI love the plaids and homey little M's. I could move right in!
