Evesham Abbey

Oops, I inadvertantly combined two different villages in the last post. Believe me, Stanton is adorable, but the first pics were from somewhere else. Alderton, I think. That was my first day in England - I blame my confusion on train lag.

I'm pretty sure I've got these next pics straight though. These are from Evesham. This is the Norman gate (from the 1100's?). Well, the gate is in there somewhere, I don't know when these beautiful buildings were actually constructed.

From the other side:

Part of Evesham Abbey. Siobhan says it has rained on all of her previous visits. Amazingly enough the sky looked threatening but didn't actually pour.

Whee, gargoyles.

Siobhan with more of the abbey:

Love the signpost in Abbey Park:

Made it home safely. That Eurostar is fabulous - can't believe how easy it makes the trip between England and France. Slowly getting caught up on chores. sigh, back to reality.

I had such a great time watching telly at Sio's. I'm sure she thought I was the most pathetic couch potato she's ever run across, but I did it to slow her down. Yeah, that's it, I did it to take care of her.

I've now seen two episodes of the show Pushing Daisies and absolutely LOVE it. That's not necessarily good news for a show (R.I.P. Firefly, Veronica Mars, Angel, Arrested Development, Dead Like Me.... Need I go on?) but Daisies has been renewed for another season - woohoo. Although there were only 9 episodes in the first season, which was unfortunate.

Pushing Daisies is delightfully quirky, reminding me of one of my favorite movies, Amelie. It's about a pie maker who has the ability to bring the dead back to life and uses this skill to help solve murders. It's more lighthearted than it sounds. Now I just want the DVD to come out.

Speaking of tv show renewals: woohoo, there are going to be more Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Oh, watched five minutes of Moonlight, the vampire whatever show, and HATED it.

This post is getting long, but remind me to tell you the story that answers the question: why should you pre-wash your fabric before putting it into a quilt?

When I see pics like this, I am always amazed that people actually get to live in such beautiful surroundings. I hope they appreciate it!

Never even heard of Terminator:The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Will have to check that one out.

Oh yes, we adored Pushing Daisies and are eager for the next season. DH has been pleased with Sarah Connor. I tried to watch Moonlight, hopeful, but I couldn't even get through that one episode. I didn't know about Amelie; will have to look into that.

The pix today remind me of all the Mary Stewart books I've read. Well, the ones set in England anyway!

The half-timbered houses are late medieval/early Tudor, built around the 1500s I should guess. We are so lucky in the UK, houses like this aren't uncommon, most towns and villages have some. In the village where I taught we had a street of houses dating back to the 1400s. Glad you enjoyed your short sight-seeing tour.

I'll say it again - you're making me homesick!

Family come out on Eurostar/TGV every year. They say its better and quicker than flying.

I didn't watch Pushing Daisies. Wish I had.

I pre-wash anyway and I know you do because of the allergy thing so do tell!

Love the photos of England! Did you notice the little kitty in the window in the first picture?? Do you have kitty magnetism? I know some people do!
And the sign in hysterical! Thanks!
Sorry to hear about reality setting in. That's always the downside of vacations - the afterward.
Haven't seen Moonlight yet. Dr. Who is on at the same time, and Dr. Who ALWAYS takes precedence! Will have to check out Pushing Daisies - sounds good!

sounds such fun visiting and hanging out-glad you did this trip though catching up is tedious.

I really liked Pushing Daisies too. Have you ever watched Supernatural? The two boys that play the main characters are so adorable, especially the one that plays Sam. You should check it out.

No decision for me. If there is one I use it!

I do feel your pain with TV shows (especially since most of those I've watched as well). Lovely photos of England though and I'm pretty sure I have an idea of how the story about non-prewashed fabrics goes...

Oh, btw, I found a couple of fun reads lately, not sure if they are your cuppa but you might find them amusing :0).

Wonderful photos! "Decision time"--I love a country with that kind of sense of humor. I think I'd feel very at home in England.
