Here are all the finished blocks. I've started worrying it's looking too much like a baby quilt and have tried to throw in more of the reds, deep purples, and greens. And I'll use fewer pinks.
And this is cheating and using quite a few unfinished blocks. I really like this assymetry. The question is not if my husband will dislike it if I actually make the quilt this way but how much he'll hate it. He hates assymetry. He might just have to close his eyes every time he walks by this one. bah ha ha ha.
Right now I'm thinking it's going to be 8 blocks across and 8 blocks down. I'm making loads of extra so I can play.
Pokey once again helping out. I suppose this is better than jumping up on the cutting mat while I'm wielding my rotary cutter.
Nothing but rain here today. Bah! It does tell you how much better I'm feeling that I kept working rather than curling up in the recliner with the kitties and a book.
Thanks for sharing your quilt's progress with us. Your skinny logs are certainly brightening my days. Your distinctive style and colour choices will make a fun quilt. I think we're having the same dreary weather here in the UK. Hope it doesn't sap your creativity!
ReplyDeleteWell commenter one said what I was going to say...seems you are having the same weather as we are in the UK...wet wet wet.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures of Pokey! :o)
A cat knows when she looks good on a pile of blocks! The creek flooded here today...again! I think my feet are getting moldy!
ReplyDeleteMy husband hates asymetric too and also random. He always wants to arrange everything according to some plan. Sometimes I follow his advice but often i just bumble along on my own way. I like the look of what you have done so far.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I'm not the only one with Christmas still on the walls! LOL
ReplyDeleteThe last of it was put away this weekend.
The best exercise I ever did was to put 200 different 2 inch squares in a paper bag and then sew them together into rows NO MATTER HOW THEY CAME OUT OF THE BAG,( unless there would be two of the same next to each other.) Bonnie is right, if the pieces are small enough it won't matter. I have that quilt somewhere and will post a pic to show this week!
your skinny logs are looking great!glad you are feeling better
Looking at the photo, the quilt doesn't give the impression of a baby quilt. It looks just right for the wall or even a small throw type quilt! And the odd colors inserted every so often just serve to jazz it up.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it looks "babyish" at all -- even with the pink. But then again, I love pink. My husband hates it, so we have some issues (you should have seen him when our daughter was born and he realized that most baby clothes are "color coded" ). Go with the asymetry -- it works!
ReplyDeleteGlad you're feeling a bit better, Tonya. I too am a mentalist (as we call them in my family - we have a few!) and find quilting a perfect antidote to depression. It's absorbing and challenging without being difficult, keeps your brain occupied (instead of thinking about rubbish) and has a satisfying end product to raise self esteem. Why don't doctors prescribe it to their patients?! By the way, your log cabin quilt is coming along wonderfully.
ReplyDeletepokey's eyes are quite coordinated in color. love the asymmetry.
ReplyDeleteI vote to go with the asymmetry--I think it looks fabulous and not babyish at all.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're keeping your spirits up by quilting. These gray winter days can make you feel that your whole life is on hold for the next several months.
I consider myself a traditional quilter, but more and more I am drawn to assymetry. It is funny how many times people have looked at my quilts and told me they are not 'even'! I think it makes them more interesting. I'm loving your brights with the darks! I'm about to start a baby quilt in greens and black -a requested combo! Stand by for BRIGHT geckos!
ReplyDeleteI tend to post photos of my work in progress too and sometimes I wonder if people get tired of seeing the same quilt but hey, it's my blog and I like seeing a quilt's progress.
ReplyDeleteThis looks wonderful and while I'm more of a symmetric quilt I'm working on that!
Oooo, I *like* what I'm seeing! Glad you've been able to overcome the weather and keep working. An engrossing project can be the perfect antidote... you just have to be able to get into it!
ReplyDeleteHave you thought about how you're going to quilt this log cabin yet? That's a LOT of seams!
It doesn't look like a "could be" baby quilt to me but more Amish. I'm loving it! Lots of rain here, too, but summer's coming - yup - it will come.
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt! The dark streaks look like shadows. Very neat effect. I am with you and Mary, I love to see my quilts in progress too. And we will never tire of seeing your beautiful cats helping you make your quilts.
ReplyDeleteI it is looking sooo good! I love it! And look at Pokey! How nice to have such a good friend!
ReplyDeleteYour blog came up as a search hit, and I decided to take a look. I love your quilts!! Your eye for color is fantastic, and your hand quilting looks great.
ReplyDeleteI am also a quilter and I majored in French in college. I love France and most anything French. :D Mind if I add you to my bloglines? (www.bloglines.com)
See you around hopefully!
These colors really suit the cat, don't they? Maybe that's why she is around it so much? They know when they look good!
