Just to have a picture in this post, here is one of Pokey from much earlier in the year.
I opened up my email this morning to find two different quilters asking for information on quilt shops in Paris. Made me realize I need to do a guide for quilters coming to Paris. I'd like your help on this. I've been to Le Rouvray and the fabric stores all clustered in Montmartre near the Sacre Couer Basilica. What have I been missing?
I know Joyce has told me the garment district is excellent, but where is it? And Kathie had a favorite shop in Montmartre.... Anyone else?
Also, any good tourists sites that would really appeal to a quilter? I loved seeing antique fabric samples and the Lady and the Unicorn tapestries at the Museum of the Middle Ages (aka Cluny).
Further afield from Paris would be the Museum of Printed Textiles in Mulhouse. I haven't been there yet, but boy would I love to. The Bayeux Tapestry in Normandy is also on the wishlist.
As for anyone who might make use of this guide, what else would you like to see? Any particular kind of fabric you want me to try and hunt down? I'm guessing something Provencal-like, but what else?
There is a brilliant site

which lists all the shops in Paris. I found one near the Porte d'Italie I think which is linked to one in the US.
Anyway, this site is good for finding shops in Europe. Bon weekend.
The garment district is the fabric stores around Montmartre.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea, but I would also love to see your favorite picks for other goodies too. For instance a fabulous bakery or restaurant that can't be missed. I have no idea when I'll make it to Paris, but Europe is definitely on the wish list!
ReplyDeleteBeautifol fabrics!
ReplyDeleteKind regards,
Sonnja, from the Netherlands
beautiful kitty! love the pic!
ReplyDeleteDo you need addresses? As proof that I never throw anything away, I still have my merchandise bags from those shops, complete with addresses and phone numbers.
ReplyDeleteThe picture of Pokey is gorgeous! I bet you could enter that is a photograph contest and win some prizes with it! At the very least some quilting magazine should feature her.
ReplyDeleteGreat picture. Pockey is lovely and of course as every other kitten he loves fabrics. When I go to Paris i use to shop at the Rouvray and Reines.
