The next two photos aren't of columns, but these ceiling arches have similar details and are in much better condition since they are sheltered from the weather.
A detail of the above column, twining snakes:
Hope these provide plenty of quilt design inspiration.
Your photos are always amazing--such detail! When my son went to Paris with a high school tour, he came home with lots of standard pictures, but very little detail. Every time you post about Paris, I want to grab him and ask, "Didn't you see anything like this?"
Beautiful. As much as I appreciate and enjoy modern design, you can't deny that buildings that are heavily decorated like this one are absolutely inspiring as well.
Love the succulent leaves at the top of the column.
ReplyDeleteOH Thank you so much....you are inspiring me to start this project now!!!!!
ReplyDeletemaybe I need a trip to Paris to further study my idea :)

I'm always amazed by your photos. What type of camera do you use? They are outstanding!

ReplyDeleteThe pictures are so beautiful. Wish I could have a rubbing. :) I've been thinking about columns lately, thanks for the push.
ReplyDeleteWow. Do you think those are hand carved?
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine anyone in the US putting this kind of detail in/on the facade of a building anymore? I can't. Even if they *could* afford it.
