On the Schedule

I'm having the thyroidectomy on 21 November. That's two days before Thanksgiving. I'm not worried tho - I can go and have a nice turkey dinner before the surgery and we weren't planning to get together with friends or family anyway. I'll be eating lots of ice cream and jello since I'll be on a liquid and soft food diet after the surgery. I'm happy to have a date on the calendar for the surgery.

Yesterday was an excellent day. My friend M came over and we worked on her quilt that has been in progress for 15 years. That's how many years ago I taught her to applique and she first started working on the blocks. When I was in town 3 years ago we started basting it and yesterday we finished basting it. She did get about 10 inches of quilting stitched into it tho. I just hope she'll keep working on it this time since she's actually at the fun part.

She also showed me a very cool part of Bethesda that's full of restaurants and a big Barnes and Noble bookstore. Even better, it's only a few blocks away. I kind of feel like an idiot for not getting over there myself, but at least now I know where it is.

It's improved my mood immensely to have had glorious sunshine yesterday and again today. Hope you all have had some lovely fall (or spring for you down-under types) weather too.

I watched the Sci-Fi channel miniseries The Triangle. I knew going in it would be stupid fun, and it didn't disappoint. Gotta say the air turbulence and high seas were too realistic. I had to keep quilting and NOT look up during those scenes. That's so much easier to do when my sweetie is here to harass - What's going on now? What did I miss?

I hate using the computer in the common room. Not very conducive to staying for long and getting creative in my posts. I'll do much better once my husband gets back with the laptop. Not that it will be the same laptop as before, since he managed to spill coffee all over that one. Glad that was him, not me. Anyway, I am totally behind in reading blogs - sorry about that.

Do check out the first issue of the Bent Needle - textile goodness now on blogstands near you. I haven't gotten a chance to check out all the links, but it looks like loads of fun. Go on, go look.

  1. I'm glad to hear that you have a surgery date and will be able to put the whole thing behind you soon. I'll definitely be thinking of you. When are you supposed to leave for France? Hopefully you will be recovered in time.
That big Barnes and Noble sounds like a good place to spend a lot of time (aka money).

  2. I think it's an excellent decision to remove the whole thing. If something came back and they had to go in again you'd kick yourself. I am sure it will be just fine. Do you like wendy's frosty's? They were my fav when I had mine done. Jello also feels good and not so fattening. Good luck and I'll mark my calendar and think about you that day!!

I'm so happy to hear you were able to find a doctor and get the surgery scheduled...though I'm not so thrilled about the date. ;-)
Hopefully it will be routine and with a quick recovery, you'll be Ooh-la-la-ing all over gay Paree before you know it!

  4. Great that you have a date scheduled, Tonya. I'll hold a good thought that it's smooth sailing...and there's all that ice cream afterwards, a VERY good thing.

Can relate about the computer: just before we moved to the condo in Oakland I managed to overturn the dregs of a bottle of beer on my laptop. I immediately turned the 'puter over and left it to drain all night. Still, the keyboard has a sticky key or two, to this day!

Thanks for the reminder about The Bent Needle...a really wonderful concept. I need to spend a lot more time there...

  10. Now you've got a date for the surgery you can prepare yourself and it'll soon be all over and done with - thank goodness they found all this out in the States instead of in France - the thought of dealing with it with most of your carers speaking a foreign language is too much to even contemplate even if the French healthcare is excellent

  13. I'm glad you have everything scheduled. Will DH be going on ahead, or will you be ready, or exactly how will that work?

Good thing you got your friend to the good part of the quilt! Maybe when you come back from Paris, you can show her how to bind it. =)

Thanks for the textile magazine link.

Wait till you see my letters I've been working on this week. Last night I had to make 18 e's/a's! I'm still not done with all of them! That letter isn't too fun to make!
