Take the Leap Challenge

I've been thinking a lot about a comment that Tazzie made the other day. One line in particular stood out: "I'm longing to make some freeform letters and teacups, but I'm scared to take the leap."

I have a challenge for Tazzie and anyone else out there who has thought the same. I've come up with a project that should be fun, easy, and fairly quick. I will make it with you, I will do my best to come up with the clearest instructions possible, and if you get in any kind of jam I will talk you through it.

We're going to make a baby quilt for the charity of your choice (there are some great ones out there but I don't have time at the moment to go cruising for links). This way you're not trying to make something that will fit in with your decor, or that has to please the taste of anyone you know. If your letters don't look like letters, it won't matters. Babies aren't fussy - they just need warmth.

Anyone in? You don't have to have a blog to play. You can leave a comment or email me.

  1. Hi Tonya,

I'm up for it, though I will need to have a practise run first. When are you thinking of starting?

Any chance of tying this in with my Quilts for Leukaemia idea?

  2. Sounds good to me - I've been wanting to try the letters but haven't had time for a large project with everything else going on right now. A small charity quilt I should be able to do.

  10. Not sure I'll have much time to work on it right for the next few months but I'll give it a shot. Worse comes to worse, it becomes a UFO until we're settled back in the states. So, count me in.

I will take the challenge too!
Great idea Tonya.....I get to practice the free form letters I have been admiring forever on your quilts and others and make a charity quilt.
    A truly win win situation!
    Thanks for doing this,
    Kathie

  20. Tonya,
I'll give it a shot, but it'll have to be tiny, baby steps for me.
    Finn's quilt is adorable.

  21. Oh - I wish I had time to take the challenge. Can I watch while you all play, and take notes, so I can play later once I finished everything I have deadlines for?

  22. Hey Tonya!

I've been visiting your blog for awhile now but have never commented. I would love to be part of this challenge so count me in too!! I have a small ministry called "Gus' Gang" and we give blankets, books, gifts of encouragement to families with chronically ill children....this challenge will be great for me to "do something different" with the quilts I make. Thanks a bunch for heading this up!

I'd like to try too. I've been wanting to try your letters on a fun project but I'm afraid to mess up. This will give me good practice.

  24. Okay, I'm in too. I belong to a German Yahoo-group piecing little quilts for prematur babies with a birth weight under 1500 g and as they always need quilts I will do one for them.

  29. I'm in also. Just do not tell my hubby! LOL! He is always on me about not finishing anything I start. He is right. But it is still fun to do these things. Even if I do not complete it right away, it will get done.

    Thanks for this opportunity!
