I've had distractions. Meet Annabelle and Cooper:
They are darling siblings, now 3 months old. Rescue kitties of course. I saw their little faces looking at me from Petfinder.com and they just drew me in.
Notice the resemblence to Lily? (that's her down below) Couldn't bear thinking of Lily living in jail, so figured I'd bust these two out. Not that they were in jail - actually living in a wonderful foster home, but that's besides the point.
The big difference is the eye color. Right now the wee ones have yellow-green-brown eyes, as compared to Lily's striking clear green. And the little dudes have a more pronounced snout. Their mother is gorgeous, as well as friendly, so I know they will be too.
She's a chewer - chewed my iPod headset cord in two and scared us by playing with electrical cords. We now have lots of cords wrapped in blue electrical tape, which supposedly has a chalky taste that kitties don't like. Agh, Annabelle just launched herself at a quilt hanging on the wall - and she stuck there for a few seconds.
Meanwhile, Mini Cooper has the same face mask as Lily and two brown ears and hind legs.
Cooper's more likely to chew on fingers or toes. He loves hunting and dragging prey behind the sofa - there's quite a collection of toys and paper towels back there. Cooper has made the unfortunate discovery of the dishwasher - he loves jumping in there while I have the bottom rack pulled out. He's the more affectionate of the two and voluntarily sat in my lap for a couple of hours yesterday.
They both have tiny sharp teeth and tiny sharp claws. Agh.
The big cats for the most part ignore them, but there has also been hissing and running away. The big boys are mostly uninterested and Lily is peeved.
The little dudes added a lot of life and energy to our house. We sorely needed it after losing Pokey. And then Bubba. Bubba was a sweet, cuddly little guy that we really loved, despite having him in our family for only 9 days. I had to have him put down - the vet suspected Feline Infectious Peritonitis. That was truly awful.
I feel like I am finally, slowly starting to come back to life again. The last few months have been difficult.
Besides the cats, the other big event around here was the super derecho which left us without power for three days. That meant we had no internet, cable tv or phones either. The winds knocked down the cell phone tower too - so we felt really cut off. First time I've ever really wished for smart phone. But the whole thing could have been much worse, since there are areas that STILL haven't gotten their power back more than a week later.
And now to watch the Wimbledon Men's Final and whatever stage of the Tour de France we're at today.

Rescue pets are the very best! I'm glad you opened your heart to the fur babies. They are adorable.
There's no need to apologize to quilters for a blog post on cats!! As Pepper Cory says, "Quilts are cat magnets."
Glad things are getting back to normal. <3
What wonderful little distractions.....very happy for you!
Glad I am not the only cat Mom with one that climbs the quilts on the walls. Your latest babies are adorable. I'm sure that they will be great quilting helpers.
So glad you have power again and that you have some new kitties to cheer you up! I hope things keep going that direction. :)
You sound a lot more "up" than you have done so the gorgeous kitties have obviously done the trick.
I haven't done much either. Feel as though I'm in a rut, but hopefully things will start picking up once I've got a few quilts finished and perhaps I can start again.
Keep taking the kitty therapy!
I can see why they came home with you. Sweet faces. Happy they are adding a positive energy to your house, except for the quilt/wall climbing.
Rescue pets are the BEST kind, your new kidlets are SOOOO cute. I'm thrilled for you. The energy that kittens bring into a home is wonderful, enjoy it!
So glad you are back, missing you. Love your kitties.
Oooh, kittens! Yes, they do lend a lot of energy and laughter to the household. That's a good thing. Chewing on electrical cords, not so much :) Hope the power continues to stay on and the temperatures fall!
Yeah Pet Finders. !! That's how I found my Dolly. And these little ones are soo cute I can see why you had to have both.
Glad you're power is on and you're finally getting settled in. Stay cool!
What wonderful distractions they are indeed, just gorgeous and now you've made me want to go and get myself a cat - they are soooo cute and playful looking. Want one!!!
There is no better way to ease a broken heart than new kittens. After our Nels passed last fall, I swore no more kitties. When Annie and Bobcat pass, that would be it. Then Kitty (we still haven't figured out her forever name) arrived. She lived on our patio all winter. She was a swing shift kitty and would show up at tea time. Needless to say, she now sleeps at the foot of my bed and I am head over heels in love. She helped me see that live without a cat is not in my future as long as they find me. Welcome Annabelle and Cooper!!!
You have been missed :0).
Sweet kitties.
How did you do without A/C in the house in Maryland..so hot and humid there!
I'm so happy for Rodger...great final.
And how about Lisa Raymond winning mixed doubles with a Bryant brother.
I hope they can do it again at the Olympics don't you!
Happy Tour......now there are some real men!
Happy Sewing ( when the spirit moves you :0)
Omg just how cute are they!!!! Lucky you. I bet your just having so much fun watching them play.
I'm so glad to hear that the new cute little kitties are helping you get back to Life. They'll do that! *grin* The chewing bit is not-so-good. Dunkle is a chewer too, and I still have to watch him constantly. He's 6 now and chews whatever he can get ahold of. Ugh. Hope the blue tape helps.
I don't know how you survived that heat & humidity with no a/c! Yikes! Glad you're all safe now. I don't think a smart phone would have helped you during the outage. Mine was only a paperweight when we had the ice storm last winter - no power, no cell towers. Totally useless. :)
I'm having a giveaway on my blog! indigothreads.blogspot.com
So glad to see you back and ready to take on more fur babies. I'm so sorry for your experience with Bubba. He looks like a sweetie.
Annabelle and Cooper are pretty cute too.
Your cats and quilts and lifestyle are why I keep reading your blog. We have seem to have similar interests; and you have turned me on to a couple of new TV shows!!
I'm glad you are on the mend!
We can't ever get enough of those little kitty faces! So sweet!
Yeah! The way to help heal your broken heart is to open it to needy kittens! So happy for you! They look like sweeties.
Joanna
Котята - прелесть! Очень забавные.
A warm welcomw to the new members of your family. Fun times ahead!
It's so wonderful to meet Annabelle and Cooper. They look like a bundle of fun x 2!! We'll be looking forward to lots of cute photos and fun stories of their adventures. My heart goes out to little Bubba, I'm glad he had some time in your family. Enjoy le Tour. It's televised in the middle of the night here so we just watch the highlights the next day. It's such a great sport to watch. The boring parts are full of stunning French countryside and the exciting bits are like watching supermen doing amazing things on bicycles.
They are so cute! I am sure they're keeping you busy as they get to know their new home. Please keep posting about your kitty company, we love to see them ; )
your new kitty babies are adorable! and sound so cute. they sure can cheer you up cant they? My Dunkin (named after Dunkin Donuts where someone dropped him off) makes me laugh daily with his antics. he thinks he is HUMAN. Who will tell him otherwise? not me! LOL
Being only a few cats short of "Crazy Cat Lady" status myself, I say bring em on!! I could so have several dozen!! Love hearing/seeing the kitties.
We all know that nothing in the world will make you forget your adorable Pokey but new kitties can help to ease the pain.
I am glad that Bubba had beans who cared enough & knew how to take care of him even in his short time here.
You did good.
Cheers
Lush x
Isn't that why we have pets in our lives -- to destroy our stuff!?! Happy & sad you could give little Bubba a loving home for his short life. And the new pair -- too adorable! I'm sure they keep you on your toes & are seeping into the Pokey-shaped hole in your heart.
Aww, so sweet. We recently found our new dog on Petfinders too, after losing our dog last fall. I't so different and fun having this huge bundle of energy in the house. Good for us both!
Rescue pets have rescued a many of us :-) I'm so glad you found these two to help cheer you...and keep you busy! I'm so sorry to hear about Bubba's time but I know you gave him your best care while you could.
We have a new girl cheering us up at our house too.
Annabelle and Cooper are PRICELESS!!
So glad they're living with YOU!
Congratulations on the new arrivals. I really hurt for you when you lost Lily. When we lost a really special cat 15 years ago, we coped by adopting two rescues (and they saved Christmas that year!) New kittens are a SCREAM when you are used to quiet older cats..... as you are finding out. Have fun!!
Congratulations on your new kitties! Looks like you have been WELL entertained. What fun. And you did get a mention of a quilt in there, plus a photo with some quilts. That satisfies the quilt blog police. Right?
I've been thinking of you.... So happy for the new additions to your family. Kittens bring a lot of smiles and laughter.

How wonderful to have new energy to soak up and fun antics to watch!
been worried about you...nice to hear that the fog is lifting.
adorable kitties, too!
Oh Tonya, your new babies are adorable. I know they will light up your life in so many ways. It is so cool that Cooper even hung out in your lap for that long. Guess he knows what lucky cats he and his sister are.
Thanks for sharing your new babies. They are so cute. Glad you are posting again. I missed you.
Great to see you back here, blog absences are the worst, in this wacky community. My FIL was asking after you just the other day, glad to hear you are doing well, and your kitties are adorable. :)
Tonya,
This post reminds me of my son. He wanted a kitty so bad but I could not allow that because of family members including himself were allergic to cats. I can see how you can come back to life with these cuties' arrival. They are adorable! Hopefully you will get back to sewing soon.
Meanwhile, blog away about the kittens. Stay in touch with your blogger friends and sewing will follow.
What beautiful and distinctive looking little ones! They have some Egyptian mystery about them so how appropriate, somehow. But oh those kitten stages, the terrible ones, and twos, and threes, and that is just days and weeks and months, not years ;) They will, indeed, bring so much life and energy into this house and help to bring you back to the feeling of home with all of us again. Hugshugshugs.
You really have been through a bad time, all the way around! So glad you have two precious new babies to keep you on your toes! Glad you are feeling better. We all missed you!
Well! Very glad to meet the new little ones! I KNOW they will brighten your family up. Who can not smile when a kitten is playing! And how nice that the little ones have each other too. I'll be looking forward to many many more pictures!
OMG, they're adorable!!!! What a great tribute to Lily, to have two new versions of her -- Lily 2.0 and 2.1!
But Bubba -- how sad, he was adorable, too. Poor kitty!
Enjoy your new kitties, maybe the others will come around to adore their cuteness eventually . . .
Lois
So, so cute! They are just adorable. Happy for you to have these additions. ;o)
Isn't it interesting how, to kittens, absolutely everything is a toy? Even if the older cats never fully accept them, they will have one another. They are beautiful.
Tonya, they are so so so cute!come on over to my blog and read about the cupcake escapade. they keep us on our toes don't they?
I tell you Dunkin is lucky he is so darned cute! LOL
Hi, Tonya. There's nothing like kittens to bring a little fun into our lives. A kitten rode to our house in the motor of our car (!) so when we finally figured out where all the meowing was coming from, we got her out and kept her. Stay cool!
best,
nadia
The kittens are adorable! And such little bundles of energy! Thanks for the pics!
I'm considering getting one maybe two kitties? I have the perfect place for it - big floor windows for them to sit in, and vicariously enjoy the outdoors.
