Whee, oh boy! Gwen's new Liberated Quiltmaking II book is now expected to come out in January 2010, rather than spring (which was the last bit of news I heard). I am already excited about it. Here's a peek at the cover:
At long last! Gwen Marston has updated her signature Liberated Quiltmaking!
The fascination with Gwen’s Liberated Quiltmaking has generated a demand for more, more, more! First introduced in 1996, her distinctive processes for creating original quilts are expanded in this new volume.
Gwen presents nine Liberated Quiltmaking processes including Liberated Square Within-a-Square, Liberated Medallion, and Re-cut Blocks and Sashing. Each process is clearly illustrated with step-by-step instructions, pieced samples, and loads of example quilts. Multiple techniques and variations are also given.
Liberated Quiltmaking II provides a way of working without using templates or set patterns. Truly original quilts result from these processes that engage the quilter’s intuition and emotion as well as technical skills. Quilters with some experience will enjoy putting pizzazz into their designs.
Gwen Marston has been a professional quiltmaker, author, and teacher for more than three decades. Her work has been shown in group exhibits throughout the United States and abroad and in 21 solo exhibits. Her articles have appeared in numerous magazines over the years. This is her twenty-fourth book. Gwen lives and offers quilting retreats in her home on Beaver Island, Michigan.

Me again and can I just say Woohoo!
I am so bummed I'm not at Gwen's quilt retreat right now with Bonnie and Lucy and all the other folks who are having such a good time. Of course I'd be pretty worthless, unable to sew a stitch, but at least I could talk.
No, I haven't decorated for Halloween. I have Halloween Houses up on the wall, since Janet was using it for inspiration for sewing liberated houses while she was here. And a fun pumpkin that Marge F. sent me (thank you!) is up as well. Things are such a mess right now and other projects have higher priority (need more shelving). And it doesn't help I need so many rest breaks.
I am getting lots of tv watched. I saw two episodes of Flash Forward and can I say bleah? How such an interesting concept can go so horribly wrong so quickly I don't know. I was sooo tired of hearing Benford blah blah blahing on about his wife having an affair she hasn't even had. And his partner, oh poor me, I'm going to die. Maybe you were asleep, buddy, or under anesthesia. I fast forwarded through parts of the show. Not a good sign. It has one more chance.
Stargate: Universe? Horrible horrible horrible. Dark, dreary, dull. I watch Stargate: SG-1 for the fun and humor and adventure. We turned the pilot off after 45 minutes.

It is a dream of mine to go to a Gwen retreat.....hey it could happen :0)
Glad to hear you are doing better...as a nurse I always knew things were on the mend when things other than pain were discussed......like TV :0)
Take care, let your body rest and heal and you'll be good as new soon.
Happy hand sewing
Someone from my quilt group just got back from Gwen's (last week) and her in-progress piece was enough to blow me away! I'm looking forward to the new Liberated Quilts. January...that's not too long now!!
Wow! Now I am excited for winter to com! Looks like a great book!!!
Hope your finding a little creative time in the unpacking..
Hi -
Great News about Gwen's Book.
I have friends who just returned from Gwen's, had a great time, as always.
I agree about Flashfoward - bummer, I was hoping for another good show. We'll always have Mad Men, and Dexter....hope you're feeling better.

Yeah for Gwen! I love the cover already. Take care of yourself, Tonya.
Oh boy, now I'm even more excited about Gwen's book! Thanks for your participation in getting this one done. One wonders: can this be pre-ordered??
Thanks for the update on the new TV stuff. I was wondering about Flash Forward last night - DH was watching baseball, so I couldn't see for myself. I've been watching lots more TV now with a broken arm. Not much else to do, nor ooomph to do it yet.
I think it was Heroes we were watching the other night, and a character on the show was reading "Pride & Prejudice & Zombies" - what a hoot!
Glad you're feeling good enough to complain. Keep on being a good patient - it will get better!
Thanks for the alert on the book - it will absolutely be on my Christmas list!!!
No worries about decorating for Halloween ... YOU are far more important.
One day at a time!
I too, wish I was at Gwen's retreat, it is on my bucket list! Maybe 2010? Glad you are getting more things back in your home. Pokey looks good!
I adore that cover - I'm sold. It is so so gorgeous. Lucky Bonnie and Lucy. Perhaps one day I'll get there.
Ton - there is a something on the way to you. It was posted yesterday economique so could take about a week, if not longer. Please let me know if it arrives safely.
Also DH and I have been glued to BBC1 all week watching a BBC1 serial called Criminal Justice. If you get a chance to see it you must - gripping.
glad to hear you are starting to make a come back. If you are needing some humour in your life my whole family loves to watch "Big Bang Theory". On here on Mondady nights. sometimes I have to watch it twice just to catch all the lines!:)
Hi Tonya,
Glad to hear you are on the mend! Thanks for the head's up on the new book...I live in Michigan...I should definitely try to get to Beaver Island for a retreat! She came to my guild when I lived near Houston (Galveston) - she is so amazing in person.
"Criminal Minds" is good on A&E, as well as "Hoarders" on Monday nights (it may be too much of a dose of reality for some people, but it made me feel better about my level of fabric stashing!! - even my DH said that I wasn't "that bad").
Sounds like a good reason to get more fabric!!
In stitches,
Teresa :o)
This book looks like a good cure for the winter dull-drums....glad to hear you didn't like those shows. I watched half of one and found myself polishing furniture.
(btw...think no picking up anything heavier than a bag of flour...)
Yay on the book and yay for hearing that you are recovering well. I'd gotten a bit worried over the past week.
I can't wait to get my hands on that book. I have a retreat with Gwen and Freddie in March and hope it's out by then.
That is really good news about Gwen Marston's Liberated Quiltmaking II. I didn't have the first one, but have been borrowing it from my library a few times. Woohoo, are you feeling better Tonya? I can't get into Flash Forward either. Can't wait for my Madmen 3 - Hugs Natima
Exciting news about the book Tonya! I'm so looking forward to January. Hope you will be feeling like your old self again pretty soon.
I can't wait for the book to come out. That is exciting news. I would love to go to one of her retreats - maybe next year!
Thanks for sharing the good news! Hope you're doing better and better each day!
Glad you are Ok, and I too wish I could go to a island retreat with Gwen! I am glad you are healing.
Wow...just the cover of her new book is inspiration enough...I'm so glad you seem to be on the mend.....and yes...just the other night while watching Flash Forward I mentioned to hubby.."is this show
becoming 'lamer' by the minute?"...lol, we also said we would give it one more shot!!
Hey! So glad you're back! I've been thinking about you, wondering how the recovery was progressing. What a stroke of luck to have DH around to unpack boxes and set up shelves. It's hard to live in a mess for very long, especially when you can do so little to improve the situation yourself. You'll have to be vigilant, as you continue to grow stronger, not to do too much too soon. Too bad the new book isn't available right now for you to pore over!
Such good news, about the book and that you are sounding so much better! I"m guessing that a retreat with Gwen would be wonderful, and hope to someday find out.
Glad you are feeling better and thanks for the heads up about LQ II! Gwen was excited that you posted about it! We all had a great time at the retreat!
Hi Tonya. Great news about the Liberated Quiltmaker 2 book. I took Gwen's "Abstract Quilts in Solids" book to a retreat recently and had to clean the drool marks off the pages. My girlfriends really enjoyed it. I'm glad to hear you are feeling better. Wishing productive days ahead.
Just put in my pre-order! Yay! Thanks for making this happen. :)
Glad you are feeling better.
Thanks for the info about Gwen's new book. I'm also glad that you're taking things steady and looking after yourself. Keep up the good work!
I pre-ordered this book and another from her about Log Cabins on Amazon.com. I was thrilled to see it offered.
I am glad you are feeling better. And some fabric from me is coming to you via Bonnie.

Tonya, I have been so caught up in my little world & have not stopped by in a while. So, I am saying welcome home & am so glad your surgery went well & you are on the road to recovery.
This book looks amazing. I'll have to tell my quilting friends about it.
Take care & stay healthy. Don't overdo!
Lizzy
Sounds like its time to drag out all your great halloween flicks! i believe it was last year that you posted all your spooky movies for the season...i had several of the same movies, but have since added a few new ones! Glad to hear you are on the mend and getting lots of quilting done! cheers~
