That's Not Me

Warning: Someone is posting snotty/mean comments on other people's blogs as "Tonya" and when you click on that name it takes you straight to my blog. That is NOT me. I am Lazy Gal Tonya. If anyone knows how to do something about it, let me know. thanks.

Sorry, I don’t know how to change that... It’s not me!
I’ve send you some e-mails that all came back. I’ve tagged you for a meme! Have fun! And please cuddle all your lovely cats for me.

That's so mean. I hope they knock it off soon.

How (and why?) do people have the energy to do stuff like this? It takes enough of my energy to muddle through my own life. So sorry you're having to deal with this.

I've noticed more and more of this kind of thing around the blogs recently. Unfortunately.

How awful Tonya, but those who know you know that you would never leave a nasty comment.

Some years ago, someone did this to me. They used my name & info on a very popular message board and left really nasty messages. Then they started emailing people using my name. I was banned from the message boards and from a retreat. It still hurts me after all these years and I still can't prove it wasn't me.
It really stinks when these creeps come out from under the rocks.

I really hope this kind of thing doesn't ruin blogging for us. Spam has pretty well spoiled message boards but I was hoping Blogger was safe. I'm not sure what you can do about it. Have you written to the Blogger help? They might be able to help.

It's easy to get up in arms about a situation like this. Sadly the internet/blog world does not provide any protection for this style of identity theft. You should shoot an email to blogger or the site's blog host to clue them in to the breech of identity for an aim at finding a future solution. Otherwise, take the sullying of your good name as a veiled compliment. Someone is going to a lot of trouble, meaning you have a good name, a respectable blog, and loyal readership. Only people who have the need for revenge or the jealous types are apt to this style of petty behavior. So most likely, someone is jealous of you. Another person's envy even as misdirected, is a form of flattery.

Tonya, we know you would never leave an unkind comment.

Hi Tonya...
I'm so sorry that someone is doing this to you and that I was the recipient of it. I was VERY surprised when I clicked on your blog and found a happy looking quilter who lives in France and has four cats! I was like 'how could she say things like that and be so mean?!' Because you certainly don't look mean. Since you're not a baseball fan, you probably have no idea what the comment meant, but basically "Tonya" said that my husband looks exactly like the very weird looking owner of a baseball team.
Anyway, I would change your password first, and then I would contact blogger. Maybe they'll be able to take "Tonya" down.
I think it's creepy that someone is being a fake you. That's weird.
Anyway, your quilts are absolutely beautiful! I hope you get this taken care of soon!

Tonya, I posted the Rockies comment on the Lawsonsdodallas blog. I did a search in blogger, found your blog with pictures of nice cats, and linked my comment to your blog because I thought it would be funny. I assumed once the reader linked to your blog it would be clear you did not write the comment (to me it was obvious you love cats, are very nice, and don’t care about sports). Apparently the joke was not clear. I didn’t mean to drag you into any drama and apologize for doing so. I’m very sorry about that. I only linked that one comment to your blog and will not do it again. I’m not trying to steal your identity. The girl at Lawsonsdodallas jokes around a lot and I thought she could take a joke – I guess not. Either way, I should have left you out of it.

Ouch. Well at least "Anonymous" sort of fessed up.

To "Anonymous", I can understand not wanting to divulge your name or blog here because I'm sure there are people who'd like to tie up your inbox or blog comments to let you know how stupid your joke was. But I do hope you email Tonya and Amy and tell them who you are and apologize without being anonymous. It would be the right thing to do.

You've got to be kidding! Well we would just know something wouldn't be right.

I'm so glad you got an apology! I didn't...guess I don't know how to take a joke well enough?
Oh well...what a strange kind of trick to play. And it does make me realize how vulnerable we are as bloggers, putting ourselves out there every day.
I did get a record number of comments and hits yesterday, so maybe something good will come out of this after all!
And I'll certainly keep reading your blog. All I can make is a mini-Richard Simmons costume for my two year old!

What a peculiar and nasty thing for that person to do. Hope Blogger is aware how easy it is for somebody to do that and figures out (sigh) how to block the activity.

Wow, what a very odd sense of "humor" anonymous has! Even with his/her explanation, I didn't get the joke. Don't let it get you down. We love ya!
