Man, it is bucketing down rain today. The first day it rained when we were back was wonderful and refreshing, but now I'm ready for it to stop. Not that I liked yesterday's gray sunless skies much better. And this is what winter in Paris is like too.
Big thanks to Calico Cat Amy who lives in the D.C. area and let me know about the upcoming Needlechasers of Chevy Chase quilt show which is going to be just a short metro ride away. Hurrah. Not only that but I perused the guild's marvelous website and I think I might just be able to go to a couple of their events. Wheee.
I've joined Netflix while we're here so my sweetie and I are finally getting to watch the final season of "Friends" which was being broadcast in the states when we left and which Egypt was just barely starting when we left there... Have to say I find all the characters overly annoying and twitchy, but I still want to know how it all ends. As compared to "ER" which I was happy to make a clean break from.
We finally got to try Horatio Hornblower which I thought my hubby might like since he loves "Master and Commander." Obviously the tv series doesn't have the money for all the ship battles, but was still enjoyable enough that we want to watch the second show in the series.
I watched the first two episodes of "Medium" which I hadn't caught previously. One thing that really stood out for me. Allison in the first episode: no make-up, very average looking. Allison in the series: wow, now she's professionally done-up. I liked the first Allison.... No surprise since I don't wear any makeup myself.
So yesterday was a tv binge day. Watched the Mediums and three episodes of Clean House. Told you I'm loving that show. Got some Cranky Witch quilting in as well as some loving on my attention-seeking kitties. Today I'm getting out, despite the rain. I want to go to the library, get some books and work on my book without the distraction of little sweeties.

Better rain than snow, which it'll turn to soon enough here where I am :-)
So jealous of your netflix! I am so behind, I wouldn't even know where to start! Cool about the quilt group. I think I did one project the whole time I lived in DC, so I never investigated (I was in grad school at night). Hope you're headed to the Arlington Public Library - maybe my favorite in the world! Any library is a good thing, though.
I loved the Horatio Hornblower series!
I am not a makeup person myself, have never worn it and don't plan to. God made me as I am no reason to decorate myself up, if he wanted me to have blue skin above my eyes he would have gave it to me!
Medium started? Somehow I think I have missed the start of that or something and now I have to go and investigate. Darn, it should have been on my Tivo seasons pass.
Like the family idea for a quilt...especially cartman's quote! I just got the special South Park DVD today and I'm off to watch it!
Rain for us too..for the next 3 days!
I hate ship films but Master and Commander was, dare I say it, commanding. My husband and I emerged from the theater and we both felt like we had stepped back into time on the ocean. Russell Crowe and Paul Bettany will do that to you. I am in love with Lirael also. Unfortunately I am almost finished with the second book already.
Isn't Netflix just the best? For those of us who are Tivo-challenged, especially. I'm heartened to learn that Australia has something similar, called, I think, Webflicks. I can't stand to watch the commercials on the regular series'(what's the plural of series?!) on TV, and Netflix allows us to watch an entire season in a few days..love it! Right now we'we watching the BBC series, Ballykissangel, and enjoying it a lot. Also liked Lord of the Manor, Darling Buds of May, etc. On THIS side of the pond, I've enjoyed Alias, even though it's really pretty dopey, the first season of Desperate Housewives, and ditto Grey's Anatomy. Anything else really good that I've missed?
Hey Ton, glad to hear there are some things on the horizon for you quilt wise!! And hurray for NetFlix..!! Here to save our viewing sanity. I watched the Wallace and Gromit WereRabbit today..lol..what else can I say.
The idea of a family quilt with lots of words an characters sounds interesting..kind of an ultimate orphan block quilt(much like your Howlween) might just have to give that a try.
As Ebby and I work out some of the "ownership" kinks, I keep thinking of you and your street urchins...and I don't give up or get impatient with her. I think we're at about the 50/50 point after a week. She's mostly past being skidish with me, but still wants no part of being picked up. And altho she uses my lap often, she keeps an eye on what I'm doing at the same time. Always ready to jump and run..poor baby. Hugs for a rainy day, Finn
Well, we're sending you a fine fall day! It'll be there real soon. What kinda drugs are you takin' and where can I find them? Great, now I'll be on someone's watch list! What I mean is... Where do you come up with all of these great ideas? That family quilt idea could keep me busy for a real long time!! If I could just get my feeble brain and my feeble body in gear... How's the thyroid? Immune systems are a mysterious thing.
Just catching up after spending the weekend in the car. I have to catch up with Survivor since I missed that this week! Have fun with Bonnie!
I like Medium, too, and liked the way she was a regular gal... haven't seen it yet this season. I'm also a no make up person. Netflix is loads of fun. I've seen some great movies that I'd never heard of before. ("Tsotsi" - I recommend it.)
Hi there, I found you through a link somewhere.
I'm new to quilting and am loving it!!
Great blog, I'll be back again!
Have a great day! :)
I know exactly what you mean about the rain. I can't believe how much it's rained here since we got back. Now that we've finally got a tv and dvd player I think it time to sign up for Netflix again too. ;)
I just love Horatio Hornblower LOL. Am so sad we haven't seen a third series!
Souns like you are enjoying your visit stateside!
