How About Four-Patches?

I'm finally feeling tip-top and energetic. Woohoo. I did some sewing. In fact I did some over-sewing since I forgot what I was doing and made an extra six Os. I've got a minimum of 18 of each of my letters, so I finally have enough units to play.

As I mentioned, I have actually made a scrappy Crazy Love quilt before. So I figure for this one, now dubbed Hot Crazy Love, I would make four patches. It still says LOVE, never you worry. I'll probably keep maneuvering the letters around some and I know I'll have to sew some extra fabric on here and there (I seem to have made some mighty tiny Ls and Vs) to make the sizes work out, but that's just to get the blocks together. The four-patches don't have to be the same size.

These remind me of Bonnie's crumbs, only with colors she'd never use - except the cheddar. This is kinda neon cheddar :)

Hmm, maybe with some red sashing and yellow cornerstones...

Oh I really like that with the sashings and the cornerstones!! mmmm might have to "borrow" this idea with some fabric I bought and can't really figure out what to do with it...

oh now there's an idea!!! Love it. LOL

neon cheddar - that's a great idea for the US dairy industry. The cheddar is already the most unbelievable colour!! (cheddar in Australia is a pale yellow colour - not that vibrant orange I saw in the US!)

What will you end up with? LOL I look forward to seeing it.

And what are you going to do with those leftover Os?

OK, Even I like it better with the sashing and corner stones! And the 4-patch Love is very interesting. I actually think I like this much better than what we chatted about the ohter day! Oh NOOOOOOOoooooo once again your getting to me! Don't worry, this is still crazy to me, but I do like this much better!

Ohh, I dare you to make it finish up heart shaped somehow and give it to your hubby next valentine's day... :)

Meanwhile, I've been working on some Tonya-letters myself. I'm not too pleased with the D, but maybe when I add the fabric on the top and bottom and the seam allowance goes away, I'll like it better. Any hints for getting them all closer to the same size though?

I like the 4 patch idea. Wish I'd seen this a few years ago when I made my daughters monstrosity of a quilt! It was king size and definitely neon and I would have had to find a way to work a 4-patch of love in there! I did L-o-v-e in a heart shape. Need to find pictures of that one to share.

The four-patch Love is cool! (or should I say hot!)

The four patch layout gives us a fighting chance of finding the letters! How about one of the wonky hearts instead of a square in the corner blocks?! You know me always need more clues!

Hi Tonya! An unrelated comment: I was reading about ForestJane's letters, and wandered over here to look at your tutorial. Ha, I also found the one about quilting without a hoop. I thought I was the only one who did that -- but I've never mentioned it because it's sooo not "regular." Don't the quilt police come to your house and tell you that's the WRONG way to do it?! :)

Seriously, I also use pins, not basting, make the sandwich loose not stretched also like you, and just stitch up a storm on my lap. Nothing new under the sun, huh?

I really like the four patch idea a lot!! I think they look really neat that way. Different from them being written out in longhand and strewn together. The blocks just do something.

It looks great too with the red sashing too. I have always loved cheddar batiks and keep some in my stash just to have around in case!

Great work!

Oh - I like the 4 patches with sashings, but I just know you will audition 100 other options - got to love a digital camera so you can review what you've played around with. Extra O's? Mom, How about XOXO for Kisses and Hugs?

Cheers!
